- Abstract
- The music scores and papers, dating from the 1930s to the 1990s, comprise the complete original musical works of Keith Humble, including unfinished works, re-workings and fragments. There is also research, teaching and publicity material. This includes lecture notes and talks, research articles and papers. Publicity material includes posters, musical programs, newspaper clippings and reviews of concerts or recitals where Humble played, conducted or accompanied other artists. A small collection of personal documents is included with the papers. Also added to the collection (November 2004) are tapes, videos, LPs and some recordings of Humble's works. A program of the Astra Concert, North Melbourne Town Hall, 21 August 2005, featuring Keith Humble sonatas and cabaret songs was added in October 2005.
- Biography
- Keith Humble was born in Geelong in 1927. A child prodigy, he won a music scholarship to study overseas. Humble studied and lived in London and Paris, returning to Australia in 1966. He lectured at the University of Melbourne Conservatorium, was the Foundation Professor of Music at La Trobe University and a visiting Professor at the University of California, San Diego. During this time, he was also composing, performing and conducting music in Australia and overseas. Humble founded and played in a number of contemporary and creative musical performance groups.
